Western Australia, 1900
Edwina and Thomas are part of the great adventure which is colonial Perth. He is an engineer on the pipeline which will be a life saver for the distant towns growing up around the Goldfields.
Edwina sometimes travels with the surveying team and when her husband fails to return from a trip into the desert, she gives birth alone.
Thomas returns to find her at death’s door and twin boys in a makeshift cot.
Edwina is never able to recall anything about that night and when in later times the question of which twin is the elder and thus heir to the family estates in England is raised, it becomes an issue which threatens the foundations of the family.
This is a tale of love, friendships and family loyalties tangled in a web of secrets and lies.
