Jan Kendall is the wife of a U.S. Congressman, enjoying the limelight and all its privileges. One day, for good reasons, she flees their elegant home, private jet, holiday homes, and big bank account.
In west coast wilderness she settles to build a real, meaningful life founded on strong friendship and true connection to the earth. But as time goes on, Jan realizes that her high-flying, immensely powerful husband is looking for her and won't take No for an answer. Crime in high places is going to change her life even more than she could have imagined.
Should Jan shut her eyes and let others decide the outcome of her husband's criminal activities? Or should she take on a new kind of role, one that will avenge the death and suffering of his victims, victims numbering in the thousands? Should she set out to bring this man – a man she once loved and revered - to Justice, to trial, to punishment for his reckless, selfish choices?
Or should she just run scared for the rest of her life?
For Jan, the answer is easy. Taking her own power for the first time, she sets out on a path that will test every ounce of courage she ever possessed.

I took a chance on ordering this book. I really enjoyed reading it. Certainly got my attention at the very start, as this situation seems to be common with some people in high places. But I admire the courage of the character, as she left a bad situation, and never let it get her down. She kept being positive, hoping to make a better life for herself and ended up finding a very good & handsome fellow to turn her life around. It was hard to put the book down, as I kept wanting to see what happens in the main character's life. It was a surprise ending, but very well written and kept you wanting to read on and on....Highly recommended for those who like lots of intrigue, mystery & a little romance!
This is a story of courage, written in descriptive detail, that pulls the reader in and never lets go. Not until the very last word, anyway. We witness one woman's heartache and disappointment in love and life, just as the story begins. But Jan is no ordinary, take-it-and-be-silent kind of woman. She stands up to the powerful man that is her husband when he tries to sweep his affair under the rug. She walks away from a life of fame and fortune, only to later find herself in a difficult situation. Her husband is a U.S. Congressman with questionable morals and character, and Jan must either stand up for what is right or watch it all fall apart. Readers will enjoy this story, not only for plot and characters, but the descriptive writing that brings everything to live.
Vanayssa Somers has captured the emotions of heartbreak, fear, determination and romance like an artist painting a picture. From the first page you are held captive by her wonderful talent and feel like you are right inside the story experiencing this journey to freedom and love. I feel very excited to have discovered this talented writer and so anxious to read her next book.
Just finished reading Sacred Trust. Ms Somers is an amazing writer, the story moves so fast with action, which I love. I was riveted from the first line. Jan Kendall's clarity about her goals drove the whole book. The lead character is an inspiration especially as I have also had to deal with this kind of challenge in my own life. I'll be looking for your next book, Ms Somers.
